It's almost August, my birthday month, and we just purchased a brand new beautiful Nikon camera. WOWSERS! I am bursting with excitement and can't wait to figure out what all these detailed buttons and switches are for and start taking clear and visually appetizing pictures of what I cook up in the kitchen.

I probably don't even have to tell you how excited I have been this summer. Every trip to the grocery store is like a testament to my will power because right as you reach the check out, there are the cooking magazines staring you down with bright brilliant pictures and colors of wonderful food and it just sucks me in every time. I have started to limit myself to one magazine a trip (being that on average I still make 2-3 trips to the store a week, this has helped to calm my anxiety for wanting to buy out the shelves.

So summer me all pumped up with all the delicious recipes for fruit tarts, southern pies, unique salads and honestly, what can't you grill??? So I thought to share with you all the love I have for magazines by picking up an extra for your enjoyment, free.

I want to try my very first giveaway on my blog here to continue sharing my love for cooking and giving you a free gift at the same time for your same shared love.

One randomly selected reader will win Everyday Food magazine's special full-size summer issue (pictured here).

The randomly selected winner will need to have a U.S. mailing address in order to receive the magazine. I will be leaving the comments open starting today and run the giveaway until Sunday August 7th, 2011 at 11:59pm before closing the contest and randomly selecting the winner.

BAPCI’S LAYERED JELLO SALAD

Ingredients:

2 Large Pkgs Strawberry/Banana Jello (or any flavor you’d like)
1 Large Can Quartered Peaches (in juice, not syrup)
1 Large Can Crushed Pineapple
2 pkgs Frozen Strawberries
1 Pint Sour Cream
2 cups boiling water

Prep:
Thaw and Drain Strawberries into separate bowl (reserve juice)
Drain Peaches, Pineapple in separate bowl (reserve juice)

Dissolve Jello with 2 Cups boiling water. Add ½ cup of reserved juice.
Pour just enough of mixture into 9 x 13 rectangular pyrex dish to cover bottom
completely. Place in refrigerator to set at least an hour!

Add crushed pineapple to the remainder of the jello mixture and keep from setting!

Once Jello has set in pyrex dish layer slices of peaches onto jello.

Stir Sour Cream to make smooth and spread over the peaches.
Drop teaspoons of strawberries over the sour cream. Try to cover as
much of the sour cream as possible.

Gently pour the remainder of the jello with the crushed pineapple over the top
of the dish (my grandmother would use a ladel).

Place in fridge to set completely. This dish is better if it sets overnight.

BAPCI’S SPIDER COOKIES

Ingredients:
1 Bag Butterscotch Morsels
1 Can Chinese Noodles
1 bag Spanish Nuts

In double boiler, melt butterscotch morsels.
Once melted add Spanish nuts and stir till all are coated.
Add Chinese noodles-gently stirring and folding to coat noodles
Remove from heat and drop tablespoon sized “spiders” onto wax paper.

Allow to cool!

This may be a duplicate comment. I bought I posted but it didn't pop up. I've been thinking of a giveaway...what a great idea. You'll have to let me know how it goes. I love magazines and find myself subscribing to more and more. I also have a nikon and LOVE it. Food pictures can be tough but I've learned a lot.
This week I made zucchini bread wig my grandma. I had been looking forward to it all summer. I just posted about it: whatshecooked.com.

Hi: Can't wait to try the stawberry parfet' by jello a layer of whip cream then the jello then the whip cream etc. Always enjoyed this on summer days.
