{DIY} Warm Vanilla Brown Sugar & Coconut Body Scrub

Who says a recipe needs to be edible???

Why can't your body indulge in a little sweet treat every once and a while, I am sure you deserve it. Holiday season is always such a wonderful time, visiting with friends and family over cocktails and cozy fires... how can you beat that? Well sometimes the holidays can be a little stressful as well so before you go on your last minute trip to the grocery store for the 2 eggs you forgot to pick up and stop in the home goods section for a forgotten last minute gift, here is something else you could grab as a perfect homemade gift and just what you will need to relax for the holidays.
As some of you know I have recently become part of the pinterest family and am quite obsessed with the site. They have this incredible DIY {do it yourself} section with so many fabulous ideas for recycling and re-creating everyday things on your own. One of the first things I found was this intoxicating body scrub. I clicked the picture and fell in love. I HAD to make this.

Again, two scrub! I bought all the ingredients and 1 minute after storing everything together I started to package. In less than 5 minutes I had put together 8 small jelly jar body sugar scrubs to which I will decorate with ribbons and bows with a tag of the ingredients and directions as thee PeRfECt ChRiStmAs stOcKiNg StUfFeR!!!!

...Not to mention the one jar you keep for yourself to indulge and treat yourself for working so hard on that perfectly delicious holiday ham.
This brown sugar scrub smells absolutely amazing! Not only is it a wonderful exfoliant, but thanks to the coconut oil included in this recipe, it's very moisturizing to the skin as well. The perfect gift to pamper someone you love around the holidays. Did I also mention how insanely inexpensive this was?? I mean seriously, a large bag of brown sugar (around $3), vanilla extract (which I am sure you already have in the house) and coconut oil (I found this at Trader Joe's for only $5.99 for 16oz but you can also just use the olive oil in your pantry) and you are done! Simple, easy, fast and homemade... it's the ideal holiday bundle.

So the next time you are at the grocery store and are thinking about grabbing that tacky chocolate kiss-filled candy cane with a bear stuck to it... put it down, go grab 3 ingredients and really impress your secret santa!
DIY Warm Vanilla Brown Sugar & Coconut Body Scrub
Recipe by
1 1/4 cups of brown or raw sugar
6-8 tablespoons of organic unrefined coconut oil
15-20 drops of vanilla essential oil (may be substituted with vanilla fragrance)
4 (4 oz) ball jelly jars

If your coconut oil is solid at room temperature, briefly warm just enough to aid in the melting the process. Then in a small bowl combine your coconut oil and brown sugar, blending well enough to eliminate any lumps. Then add your vanilla essential oil to the mixture drop by drop, being sure to blend mix after each addition. Once mixed, scrub should be placed in an airtight container, or jelly jar to make your gift look beautiful, and used within six months.

Apply your scrub to pre-moistened skin, being sure to massage it in using circular motions, then wash.

I just have to tell you......Laura gave me this scrub for Christmas and I can't get enough of it!
Especially at this time of year with the air being so dry, my skin is in heaven with this scrub. When I towel off, the coconut oil lingers enough that I don't even need to put on my usual body creams for my dry skin. I even put it on my face! Try it- you'll see!

Hi, I was wondering how long this scrub will last and if it needs to be stored in the refrigerator or anything special?

I LOVE this body scrub. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe :-) I made it today for my sister's birthday tomorrow - and saved a bit for myself too. I made it with cane sugar.

I made something like this the other night. I want to make a jar for each of my girlfriends for Christmas. However my trial run jar ended up looking like it had lard in it. The coconut oil hardened and made the scrub hard instead of goopy. What did I do wrong? I'm guessing too much cocnout oil.......
